The journey

Suffer in silence, perform, crash, repeat. Until she didn’t.

Miami · Childhood

The weird kid

Gifted · Curious · Overwhelmed

The school said she was gifted. She just felt like the weird kid. Veronica read and wrote at four and had theories about cell behaviour at eight, but fluorescent lights and small talk overwhelmed her. She wanted to fit in. She just didn’t know how.

Learning to disappear

New country · New language · New rules

Her family moved to Venezuela, where the word gifted didn’t even exist. You were normal or you were a problem. The day a teacher said she read “like Tarzan” and the whole class laughed, she learned a new kind of intelligence: how to make herself smaller.

Heavy labels

Bulimia · Bipolar · Psychiatric wards

At thirteen she was already carrying words like bulimia and bipolar. She studied Nutrition in Caracas, then Psychology at UBC, hoping to fix herself. Instead she lived in a loop: high performance, collapse, admitted, released. She was even invited to interview at Boston Medical School. She was inside the ward that day.

Toronto

Someone who didn’t flinch

Love · A proposal · A pregnancy

In Toronto she met a man who didn’t run from her scars or her diagnosis. “You’re not fragile,” he told her. “You’re fighting, and you need people who believe in you.” Three months later, she proposed. A few weeks after that, she was pregnant.

Heal the gut-brain

Gut-brain axis · First business · Minimalism

Pregnant, she couldn’t keep treating her mind as if it were detached from her body. One colleague told her: “Don’t focus on calories. Heal the gut-brain.” That sentence changed everything. Five months pregnant, she launched her first business, and minimalism taught her the rest: remove what isn’t yours to carry.

The basement

Zero sales · 4am alarms · Sobriety

Two years online, zero sales. The family moved into a basement on the outskirts of Toronto, her father was diagnosed with cancer, and the alcohol dreams came back. She joined AA, stopped spiraling, and started waking up at 4am to build the business while the baby slept.

The snowball

Out of the basement

Waitlist · Book · Virtual clinic

A six-month waitlist. A self-published book that sold 250 copies in 48 hours and 6,000 ebooks. A paid podcast with 600+ members and a virtual clinic with 10 health professionals. The family moved from the basement to a penthouse in Leslieville.

Starting over

Pandemic · A new body · A new account

Her body changed, and some public figures used her photo as an example of “letting yourself go.” She deleted her account with over 50,000 followers and started again. This time she didn’t hide her body. She didn’t explain it either.

Rooted in science and soul

Minimalism wasn’t sterile. It was sacred.

It gave her permission to stop trying to fix herself, and to build a life based on how much she was willing to let go.
